About the Fund

Liz's Legacy

The idea for the Elizabeth A. Sorrell Memorial Scholarship Fund came from Liz's daughters, Liesel and Katherine.  They wish to honor their mother's legacy  of educating young people.

Scott Knief

Scott Knief, the current Superintendent of Carver Public Schools, worked closely with Liz and she mentored him before she retired. Scott Knief is collaborating with Liz's daughters to set up the scholarship. Working with the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts, Scott will be involved in both the selection of the awardee and setting up the committee to select the awardee.

About the scholarship

The scholarship will benefit future Carver High School graduates.  It will be awarded yearly (as long as funding provides) to a Carver High School senior who both excels in and has a passion for science.

We hope to raise $25,000 through donations and fundraising.  Additional info about our goal and fundraising is located here. Finally, please read more here about the scholarship timeline and administration.
